For decades, we have tried and failed to make math fun for the average school kid. Still too many students don't like the subject, a lot of them are even scared of it. If we want them to experience math as the fun, creative, and incredibly useful toolbox it really is, we have to radically change the didactic approach. We have to start genuinely caring about their interests and see them as competent human beings. A shiny new cover for traditional exercises won't do.
With the project "Mathe im Advent" we experience this approach really works – for mathematical content and moreover for cultural and ethical problems.
