Sophia Mendoza is a proud alumni of the Los Angeles Unified School District,-- the nation’s 2nd largest school district -- where she has served in multiple capacities from a bilingual teacher, coordinator, assistant principal and a principal over the course of her nearly 22-year career with the District. Currently, she serves as director of the Instructional Technology Initiative, overseeing the adoption of the ISTE Standards and implementation of computer science education and digital citizenship programs across the 1,300 schools that comprise LA Unified. Through this role, Ms. Mendoza supports LAUSD educators in building leadership and cultivating learners who are ready for a growing digital world. Her work has been recognized by the Center for Digital Education and the Learning Counsel. In 2018 she was named a NextGeneration Leader by EdScoop and CoSN, a 2018 Most Influential People in EdTech by Tech & Learning, ISTE Impact Award honoree for 2019 and recently announced as the 2019 Innovator of the Year by Education Dive an honor that recognizes her work in establishing strategic partnerships and programs that expand instructional technology opportunities for all students.
